Jeanne Lee's vocals are perfect, and the lyrics are great. The humanity she exudes and the prosaic character she adds to the songs is very special. Shepp's playing is very lyrical too, often reflecting the inner, unspoken voice of the protagonist in the vocal. Definitely a Great record. It covers a lot of ground too." |
