"I have nearly a dozen Aretha albums and this is my favorite. The opening cut is enough to buy the album on its own. To add the other 15 tracks is a bonus. I have most of the albums from which the tracks were taken but this is a must have for an Aretha fan. This is the most passionate blues album I have heard. As humans we must feel for Aretha and her many heartaches. As fans, we must thank her struggles because they have produced one of the greatest female singers in history."

"...see,...yall can call this the blues if you want to, but in truth this is soul music delivered unto us by the best female vocalist to have ever...uh...vocalled.
fa'real, now, you can feel her spirit just aswingin back and forth between her filthy pains and dirty lusts...it hits you dead smack in the middle of your chest, sinks in, settles, rattles, vibrates and hums. the love and hurt felt here picks me up by my ankles and swings all 275 pounds of me around and around until i give in and feel it! this is some good stuff...just get it! if you love aretha and like the blues or soul music...then this wont dissappoint, promise."

"though aretha franklin is not often heralded as a blues artist, this collection certainly makes the case for such an inclusion. better than many other collections of aretha's work, _the delta meets detroit: aretha's blues_ gathers songs around a central theme, providing an encapsulated investigation of one of the many sides of the queen of soul. really, what is soul if not the union of blues and gospel? and for an artist whose career has spanned as many genres as years, it's nice to see a collection that doesn't try to be all things to all people. from the cover art to the material, this is one classy album."

"Being an avid fan of Aretha for over 20 years, I have heard most of these songs before. I was really jazzed to find this particular collection of her blues songs all on one CD. I had to have it! I sing to it in the shower, listen while driving, and never tire of her powerful voice and well constructed vocal & musical backgrounds. I recommend this one to anyone who loves the blues, jazz, or just Aretha. It spans at least a decade of her career and is geared more towards musicians who appreciate a great voice with feeling. Get it!"
