"There is some filler on this album, but there are two very different and equally superb tracks that alone make it important - the title track "Love All the Hurt Away", a mellow duet with George Benson with unusual melody, harmony and meter that set it apart, and Aretha's version of "It's My Turn". Diana Ross's version sounded like the petulant pout of an annoyed diva (I loved it, but it was hard to take her seriously). Aretha's is an anthem for every woman - more than 5 minutes long, with each repetitive phrase folding out as something new, and a true gospel feel to Aretha's singing. I think this is one her best tracks of all time, and stands up well to much of her classic '60's and early '70's stuff. The singing, the way she builds up and lets go, the back-up singers, everything is classic Aretha. On both tracks, one has that feeling of awe that Aretha's best singing produces, the realization that no one in the world has ever sung like that, before or after. "Hold On, I'm Coming" is overproduced, but fun, and again great singing by Aretha. The other songs may not be among her greats, but several are quite good, and that makes this among my favorite Ree albums. If you do nothing else, at least download "It's My Turn" from iTunes, and glory in the vocal powers of the Queen of Soul. Amazing stuff."
