Nice selection on excellent Czech label.
Mahler's early--and virtually only--chamber piece the piano Quartet (1876) also available on Schönberg: Verklärte Nacht Op. 4; Zemlinsky: Piano Trio Op. 3; Mahler: Piano Quartet ; Webern/Schoenberg/Berg/Mahler: .
Schoenberg's late Trio and violin Fantasy available on numerous discs, for example: Gould Meets Menuhin ; Schoenberg: Transfigured Night / String Trio ; Webern/Schoenberg/Berg/Mahler: .
But the real star of this disc is Schoenberg's delicious 1897 string Quartet in D-major. The piece is a joy to behold, incorporating delightful Brahmsian and Dvorakian inflections, while revealing Schoenberg's FIRST Period manner. Available on a couple of other discs: Arnold Schoenberg/Alexander Zemlinsky: String Quartets ; Schönberg: STRING QUARTET D MAJOR / STRING QUARTET OP 7 ; Neue Wiener Schule , to list but a few.
Kokoschka cover art overrated, however. See Bride of the Wind .
