"Recorded around the time Art Hodes was hosting a TV series called JAZZ ALLEY, the pianist teamed up with a quartet made up of veterans from the Chicago and New Orleans scenes for a tight night at the Emporium of Jazz in Mendota, Minnesota on October 19th, 1968. The set features Raymond Burke (clarinet), Jim Beebe (trombone), George "Pops" Foster (bass) and Tom Andrews (drums), and shows the 64-year-old Hodes in top condition, displaying fantastic dexterity with the keys.

Until his death in 1993, Russian-born Chicagoan Art Hodes remained a fixture in Trad/New Orleans-style small-group jazz, and was a writer and educator in jazz history. In 1998 Hodes was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame.
