"You wouldn't normally associate the cello with dance music, but the classicly trained cellist Arthur Russell was one of the true pioneers of disco and dance music. His distinctive and innovative sound helped to formulate the avant guarde disco sound found in many New Wave dance records during the early 1980s. This album contains none of the dance floor flavour found in Russell's best known track, Dinosaur L's Go Bang. Nevertheless, it's an exceptional collection, intensely personal and moving. The album is a compilation of just a tiny portion of the unreleased music recorded by Arthur Russell during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. Released two years after his premature death from AIDS, it stands as a fitting tribute to his abilities as a cellist and song writer. The warmth, despair, love, fear and joy Russell was feeling during his desperate battle against the illness is vividly illustrated in these songs. His trademark use of echo makes the CD all the more haunting. If you want to try something different, then this is the album for you. Arthur Russell's unique voice tells a story that's worth listening to and reflecting on."

"FOR THOSE WHO LOVE MINIMAL INTENT. THIS IS A WONDERFULL PIECE. THE FACT THAT ONE WILL BE ABLE TO ONLY FIND ONE CD BY RUSSELL IS SAD IN ITS SELF. READ HIS INTENT IN THE LYRICS. A VOICE OF SADNESS IN THE LIGHT OF DAY."
