Great Live Shaw

"A wonderful companion piece to the other volume of Shaw's live work, these are the performances that first thrust Artie Shaw into the spotlight of US dance music. A relatively underappreciated artist who could swing with the best hot bands and mellow with the best sweet bands, you'll find a pleasant mixture of both here. These are live transcription broadcasts that played on the radio in 1938, and while you may tire of hearing Nightmare at the opening and closing of each set, you'll appreciate it more and more over time. Standouts are Softly as in a Morning Sunrise, In The Mood (the long version as it was originally written) and a kickin' version from the Ellington song book DigaDiga Doo. Enjoy."
Nice radio transcriptions...

"A nice chance to hear Shaw and his big band, live! Grea sound quality, and virtiouso clarinet playing. Shaw swing as hard as Goodman, but Shaw was better technically, where Goodman took more chances, and was wilder. Shaw and hos orch. are more then a nostalgia big band, they are a hard swinging jazz orchestra!!!!"
