Bob Dylan Music That Matters to Him

"I grabbed this CD on an impulse, standing in line at Starbucks for my Venti Unsweetened Black Iced Tea. I thought it was Bob Dylan's music, and figured my hubbie would like it. It sat on my desk at work for a couple of days and got buried under assorted papers. When I found it, I realized it was not Bob Dylan, but rather music he likes. Well, I'll listen to almost anything, so I ripped it open and fed it into my PC's CD drive. Slapped my earphones on. Wow! Didn't take long for most of the tunes to worm their way into my brain! I listened to it twice at work, then all the way home in my dirty green Pontiac Grand Prix (but it has a really good stereo system!). Hubbie thought it was "just ok"...and said I could have it. Woo Hoo! It's been my favorite for many days now...I'm listening to it right now. I had to chuckle at Dylan's description of his first listening of Getatchew Kassa's "Tezeta (Fast)" - he says he thought it was some kind of Cajun record played backwards. Yup - I can see what he means! I am totally spellbound with Gus Viseur's "Flambee Montalbannaise (Valse)." I have no idea what that means, but that cut is stuck in my head forever. Without exception, I love every song - not many albums I can say that about. Give it a try..."

"I had been eying this CD at my local Starbucks, even held it in my hand, turning it over... over the past a few weeks, before finally purchasing it together with a tall Verona and a piece of classic coffee cake (when are they ever going to reintroduce the orange coffee cake?). Being a fan of Bob Dylan and familiar with his remarkable diverse range of influences, I knew it was going to be good, even though I had not heard of many of the names on this compilation. My expectations were high, and I was not disappointed! It's possibly the best compilation of roots music from the whole world that you could imagine putting on a single CD. Every track is superb. Pee Wee Crayton rocks the blues with the best, the Stanley brothers do make the hairs stand up at the back of your neck (as Dylan promises in the liner notes) and Gus Viseur is spellbinding. In summary, if you have any interest in the diverse roots of modern music, folk, blues, country, jazz... get this album!"

"For starters I don't go to Starbucks for any reason. A friend of mine lent me a copy & I'm so glad...this album just takes me back...Tunes I hadn't heard in forever. Music that sticks in "yer head". Great choice of tunes from several genres...I'm sure Dylan has hundreds more that should be on another compliation these are just ones he was thinking about at the time.
These tunes are part of our national heritage believe it or not
Thank you Bob..."philbee" Lafayette Colorado
