"'Frenzied polyrhythms' and 'densely texture mood pieces' are some of the phrases that have been used to describe Asiabeat's integrated music. Powerful Asian "bols" (rhythmic structures) and pentatonic melodies are now part of a musical permutuation, newly defined as 'World Music'". (from the liner notes.)

Personnel:
Drums - Lewis Pragasam
Electric and Acoustic Guitar - Makoto Matsushita
Synthesizer - Norihiko Yamanuki, Makoto Matsushita
Keyboards - Jose Elmir Sason, Chito Kawachi
Bass - Andy Peterson
Percussion - Lewis Pragasam, Mohd Nor & Nantha Kuma (Angklungs, Tabla, Tabil, Tabla Tanung, Chatam, Ganjeera, Kompang, Rebana, Chinese & Maylay Gongs, Roto-Toms and other assorted percussion)

On the always-interesting Kuckuck label, via Celestial Harmonies.

Asian music on steel drums and classical guitar?
Greg Turner | Pohang, South Korea | 10/22/2003
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I don't know what part of Asia that Asiabeat visited but classical guitar and steel drums aren't what I ususally consider Asian. However, the first track is excellent anyway, but nothing on this album sounds very Asian."
