"A friend from Washington recommended Cabarute. I later learned that it made the Tango Montréal Top 100 survey published in 1997 [it ranked 53 out of 100 top tangos]. This is music that is suitable for dancing. The trio consists of piano, contrabass, and bandoneón. The bandoneonist, Raul Jaurena, is an internationally known musician who has performed with other tango groups, including "Tango Five," he has performed with tango greats including Piazzola and Goyenche. Bassist Pablo Aslan is an accomplished musician who has worked with a number of professional symphony orchestras, as well as internationally known tango musicians and singers. Pianist Ethan Iverson is known for his work in both jazz and tango.Most of the pieces on this disk were arranged by Jaurena, and they include works of some of the masters such as Filberto, including "Cuando Llora la Milonga" and "Quejas de Bandoneón," and three of Jaurena's original works, "Yuyito," "Prometadora," and "A Mancuso." Some of my friends who like rock music are often critical of people who do "covers." However, in tango, there is often the situation of people doing their own interpretations of the great works of music. There are scores of interpretations of Quejas de Bandoneón and La Cumparsita in the discographies of the great tango musicians. Such is the case with the New York Tango Trio. I am confident you will not be disappointed. This is a tango disk that will appeal to dancers and to some music lovers that are jazz/tango fans."

"When I bought this CD I knew how great it was because I had listened to it before. I would like to mention how much I enjoyed the excellent version of "Don Juan" that's included in this collection.New York Tango Trio musicians have managed to perform Tango music without compromising the feeling that's necessary in Tango music. I would like to hear more from N.Y. Tango Trio (provided they are still together)."
