One my faves of 1968....obscure and wonderful

"When this album came out, nobody had heard of Leon Russell or Mark Benno, and thye original cover was a toilet paper roll. Also, Smash/Mercury/Philips weren't known for issuing hip records, so imagine my surprise when I first heard back then; clever, quirky and it's become a real favorite of mine....39 years later!
Really clever ditties and clever lyrics, although they're very difficult to hear...wish Rev-Ola had printed dem lyrics.
It certainly sound like any other Los Angeles record of its time; two singles were culled from the album; "Welcome To Hollywood" b/w "Soul Food" and "Icicle Star Tree" b/w "Indian Style". No radio play at all. All four tracks are part of the album, and Rev-Ola included the mono singles (which were a bit differently mixed) on the CD too.
If you're a Leon Russell fan, you must check this CD out. If you like The Turtles, The Beach Boys or other quirky bands, this CD is for you too.
Highly recommended. (Rev-Ola did a superb job...original mixes are clear, bright and crisp....)"
Finally!

"
Folks, if you like Leon Russell/ASYLUM CHOIR/Marc Benno,
this is a real gem! The music is GREAT. I'm so glad they
finally released this entire album on it's own!
Some of the tracks were used as BONUS TRACKS for
ASYLUM CHOIR II but they didn't include some of the
better tracks. Now that it's all complete in one
package, it's wonderful!
"Look in...." has a completely different feel than
AQII but the musicianship, arrangements, and production
are all top notch too! A must have!"
