CD ReviewsWar, Thrash and America is #1 Frank Rini | Maryland | 08/21/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "These are the first 3 words that came to my mind when I listened to At War's first cd in 20 years. I was a huge fan of the Virginia thrash band back in the day and the remastered New Renaissance discs from a decade ago still are in regular rotation for me. If you don't know At War are a 3 piece band that play a blended Motorhead/Sodom inspired thrash. Lots of war references throughout this cd as well as America being #1. The band has a right wing stance, if you see the cd cover and read the liner notes. Their first albums Ordered to Kill and Retaliatory Strike are classics in my book and were released over 20 yrs ago. Catchy, fun and memorable songs. The band garnered more of a cult following and never made it very big. This new cd is not gonna get them any huge tours or critical acclaim, but if you want fun and catchy thrash this is the band for you. This album could have come out in 1990, has all the makings of late 80's/early 90's thrash. The band plays their instruments well and this is not some protools type of band that can't play live. Songs like Assassins, Semper Fi, At War and Deceit are all catchy and this is an excellent follow-up to Retaliatory Strike, although it's 20 yrs in the making. Guess the band has seen the rise of heavy music over the last several years and they wanted to jump in while it's still hot. I wish them the best, because they are an excellent band that deserves to be looked at more closely. Pop open some beers, turn on the history channel, clean your rifles and crank this mother up!!!"
