"At times listening to Atlantis I am reminded of 1970s soft rock. This is not a knock on this excellent band. It is only that Atlantis had a polish that reminds me of-say, Jefferson Starship Red Octipus or the Little River band. This AM radio fare may have been shlock, but these bands always had great sessionmen, even if this was in service of bad materital.
Atlantis were a Vertigo band formed when Frumpy disbanded. Atlantis was not as rock and blues oritented as their preddisessor, and worked on longer, keybord essays. The electric panio gleem and fantastic bass playing gives this music some of the nuancues of the aformentioned 1970s AM higher end pop. But the hammond b-3s, blusey vocals and shifting time signatures will soon let you know Atlantis was no top 40 group.
Still, the craft and sweet textures of this music, combigned with an unshakable progressive instinct, gives you the best of both worlds."
