CD Reviews

Just what Rock needed

"Okay, I've been listening to AudioSlave since I hurried... to a cd player capable of playing audio.... I really like this. A lot. The former boys of Rage show that they are true musicians -- the right beats hit at exactly the right moment. This is truly what rock has been missing. At times they feel as tight as AC/DC at their best -- not so much the style, but that same feel-it-in-your-bones power music. Chris Cornell really takes advantage of the rock solid musicians and displays a range that I would argue surpasses even his SoundGarden days. His howl is still there (and made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up in Cochise), but he also displays far more range than I ever rememember. The slower songs never drip into the "power ballad" range, as they keep the beat moving and they often take minor progressions which actively resist any comparision with "power ballad". And Tom, ah, tom. He's not as flashy as he was with Rage, but he attacks the songs perfectly.
You can hear old soundgarden, but the precision and soul of these tracks clearly tell you that these are far more experienced musicians (which isn't to slight SoundGarden in the least!). Highly recommend. It BEGS for air guitar. If Audioslave aren't the saviors of rock, they're fighting back the hordes with distinct aplomb!"
THE NEW BREED OF ROCK!

"The sound of Rage against the machine and Soundgarden is just ground breaking. Chris Cornell's vocals are amazing and the members of rage are just outstanding in this cd.
The the sound is totally different compared to the music thats out there now. Its definetly a song-orientated, hard rock album - something that seems rare these days.
Im telling you this album kicks (...) and you will not be dissapointed."

"well i just bought the cd the day it came out, and goddammit, have i been waiting for this. i heard the leaked demos back in may, and i've been eagerly waiting to get my hands on this piece of hard-rock fury. though i would have preferred the name Civilian over audioslave.. the sound cornell, morello, wilk and commerford have contributed from their former bands has been taken to a new level. of course die-hard RATM and SG fans will never see this as anything beyond Rage with a singer, or SG with a hard-rock egde. but believe me, (being a DIE HARD Rage fan!) listen to Audioslave for what it is. just really good...music. this is part of a new wave of amazing rock (along with Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters) to drive out that [stuff] that's been plaguing the rock world-nu metal. just get it and you'll know what i mean! the best tracks: Cochise, Set it Off, What you are, I am the highway, Shadow on the sun, Exploder, Last Remaining Light. the only complaint i have is that Tim doesnt have any prominent kickass-Bass riffs."
