""Of the Fallen" suffers from Spinal Tapitis and a bunch of typos. In the band's defense, I'm so used to listening to music with canned drums that when a live drummer loses the tempo, it stands out more. The mixing sounds unfinished, which could just mean the band didn't have infinite time and money to spend on engineering.(Y'know, I started out planning a nastier review, but as I'm listening to this CD for the first time in years, it's not as bad as I remember. It may just be that Edd Baltzar's photography makes it look like these guys could beat me into creamed corn.)The Celtic touches do fit the songs well, and the Avernus logo has a nice "Book of Kells" style. You'll go blind trying to read the thank-yous, and only the opening track has printed lyrics. Rick McCoy's vocals often stray into 80's bad boy snarling, but the guitars are solid. The general sound is Spinal Tap's "Stonehenge" a la Fields of The Nephilim."Of The Fallen" is neither a great album nor a stinker. Try to find some audio samples or contact the sellers before buying it."
