CD ReviewsAmazing "band"... completely amazing C. A. Larson | TN | 01/19/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "The Awakening is one of the best bands I have ever heard. I say "bands" loosely because actually on the albums it is only one guy (for the most part): Ashton Nyte. He is from South Africa and he is amazing. Definately gothic rock... say if you mixed Type O Negative, HIM, a little Marilyn Manson, some David Bowie, a little of the darker Depeche Mode, and a little Bauhaus then you may have an idea what The Awakening sounds like... even though in my opinion The Awakening completely slaughters those other bands. Ashton Nyte sings, plays all the instruments (for the most part), and writes everything. His lyrics are very deep, poetic, and honest. He is a Christian, but he doesn't shove stuff in your face, but he does make you think. He also has made three solo albums (just under his own name) that are amazing and different then The Awakening.
Anyways, "Roadside Heretics" is one of his heavier albums. The lyrics are joltingly honest, and the music is a mix of heavy guitars, almost industrial-type sounds and beats in places, some keyboards. This is not his best, but it still gets five stars because all of his stuff is awesome! If you like gothic music, any of those above mentioned bands, or just extremely well written, honest, unique and beautiful music, then PLEASE check THE AWAKENING out. You won't be sorry." |
