Synopsis

Album Description
Vinyl LP pressing of the third album from the Brooklyn power trio. Awesome Color is a group of noise provocateurs and impressionists, ace players with Punk rock flair, inspired citizens of a small modernist nation of musical, visual, and literary outrage on the outskirts of Brooklyn, or a rainbow amalgam of all of the above at once. Following a non-stop touring schedule after their debut release (including stints with Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth in the US, UK, and Europe), the band took their honed brand of turbo chemistry into the studio and created the highly anticipated Electric Aborigines. American Dust.

Disappointed

"I gave Awesome Color's debut high marks, but this record does little to nothing to make good on that records promise. The opening track "Eyes Of Light" is the standout, but much of the following record just reminds me of lots of other bad, 70's derivative blues-based rock. The debut screamed "STOOGES!" - this one is closer to "FOGHAT!" - and not even as interesting as that. They've made zero efforts to make their arrangements more interesting, nothing.

Bummer."
Decent, but not an improvement

"I haven't given this album as much of a chance as I would like to, but on first listen it's not as immediate as their first album and doesn't seem to be any more interesting. The only really immediate track is "Already Down," probably because I'm a sucker for minor-key arrangements. This album not only has more songs, they are also longer, so it might be a problem of needing to listen to it more. But the problem is, while the music is always good, the lyrics don't really do anything. They aren't bad or anything... the problem is they fall into Sonic-Youth style catchphrases instead of actual meaning. Also, I think its really interesting that this band is considered noisy. I think it must have something to do with the horrible atmosphere we're in right now, but, aside from the opening track, this album is loud but not "noise" by any means. The Stooges were noisier than this band. I hope Awesome Color does something more interesting for their next album because I think they are a band with a lot of potential. Maybe if they did some more experimental arrangements (or actually WERE noise rock)."
