Bandits are GO!
Chinosan | London. U.K. | 09/29/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"BMX Bandits are one of the most important and underrated indie pop acts of the last 20 years. Ex-members have went on to success with Teenage Fanclub, The Soup Dragons, Future Pilot and Belle & Sebastian. This collection features a selection of the band's work while on Creation records (home of Oasis, Primal Scream, My Bloody Valentine). The 24 tracks selected by core members Duglas T Stewart an Francis Macdonald range from the power pop of Little Hands and Scar, to Little Pony and Little River of Spring sounding like wonderful outtakes from Brian Wilson's SMILE, to country rock Hello Again and sentimental well crafted Brill Building styled tune-smithery of Come Out of The Shadows. If all this isn't enough to persuade you to purchase a copy then the opening title track Serious Drug would justify your spend on its own. Serious Drugs is harmony soaked heart breaking classic pop and it seems to me to have influenced a whole generation of UK and American indie pop that followed it.

If you love Teenage Fanclub, The Beach Boys, The Lovin' Spoonful, Belle & Sebastian and have somehow missed out on the Bandits's unique magic this is your chance to catch up. A wonderful collection."
