"One of biggest kicks in life of music lover is discovery of obscure or forgotten names, very often much better and talented than big "stars" but unlucky with management/producers/company background.Dusty Springfield did all she could to introduce black "Motown" singers to UK audience, but she also always trumpeted her admiration for lesser-known Jeanette "Baby" Washington who was recording for "Sue" company in early 1960's and was very well known in black circles. If its not for Dusty,I will otherwise never heard about this brilliant singer whose sweet, baby face hides powerful gospel voice. This brilliant compilation collects her early 1960's work - lots of great singing and some less-great songs on which Washington does her best to uplift their dubious quality."That's How Heartaches Are Made" and "You and the night and the music" are magic, but as the CD progress it becames obvious that she did not have the acces to really high-quality songwritting talents.Still, great discovery and faboulous voice - Springfield herself covered 3 of these songs, and later recorded Washington's "Breakfast in Bed" for her "Memphis" album."
