I own both of the singles and have listened to them over and over again. (Disclosure: I have taken classes with Verbruggen.) There simply is no finer recorder player living. Verbruggen was a student of the great Frans Bruggen. Yes, YoYo Ma on cello, or YItzhaq Perlman, on violin, gives the Bach suites more of the richness Bach intended when he wrote these string solos, but for a sensitive and musically thrilling transposition to the recorder, there is nothing to beat Verbruggen's rendition."
