"Teldec again has proven itself to be THE BEST CD co. EVER!!!!! I will discuss each peice in detail in order of the programme. Disc 1 #1-Toccata and Fugue in d-Mr. Krumbach has done a superb job at this challenging and contrapuntal work. I read in the 31 pg. booklet that this peice is really a three part work: Toccata, Fugue, and 2nd Toccata. Then follwing peice (904) is a questionable work, not because of authenticity, but instrumentation, some people say it is a harpsichord work, others say it in a manual only or pedal obbligotto work for organ. The 547 is played quite well, but the downfall is that the selection of stops is quite agrivating! The 542 adds alot of suspense to this album! Disc 2-#1 is 1 of the only few surviving works of J. Lorenz (J. Seb.'s first nephew once removed). Phillip Spitta said he was "an able and independent musician (ein tuechtiger und seldstaendiger Musiker zu Tage tritt)" The next two peices by J. Michael (Distant younger uncle of J. C.) was "a capable composer, like his elder brother (War gleich seinem altern Bruder, ein habiler Componist)" J. M.'s peices show that he could create beautiful fantasias or partitas on a simple hymn tune. Next are two questionable works by J.S. The partita is quite nice, but you get a different feeling from this peice, than the famous ones 766-770 (771a). The Capriccio is in honor of Johann Christoph Bach II (Bachii) a joyous peice, might I add. Next are four works by Johann Christoph, (J.S.'sdistant uncle and guardian after the 10 yr. old parent's death.) I enjoy all of these works especially the zymbelstern in #9. Next are 2 works by J. Bernhard (first cousin once removed). The Passacaglia (Chaccone) in B-Dur has a joyous 8 bar theme. The Partita is also quite enoyable. Last is the Fantasie und Fuge in F-Dur by J. Ernst (Bernhard's son). He would aplly himself to music alongside his other studies. He was more of a Lawyer than a Kapellmeister. The work featured here is in the style of Mozart, for example the Fantasia in f-moll K.608 has a fugue inserted in the middle of it (it is about 3-4 min. in to the peice). This CD is a sort of reference disc because you can look up other Bachs and compare the family music. By the way, the price is a steel!"
