"The reconstructions on this album sound totally appropriate on solo violin. In particular, I was surprised at how effortlessly suitable a violin transcription of the first clavier concerto sounded. Rilling proves to be an excellent conductor of his orchestra minus the usual chorus. It is unusual, though, to hear such a rich and robust sound from the Bach-Collegium Stuttgart in this era of period performances. Once upon a time, Rilling's Bach represented the avant-garde in performance practice. Here, it sounds like something more suited to the 1950's. Still, its general excellence is nothing to be sneered at. All three soloists are very good, especially Faust in the clavier concerto transcription. My first experience of the Triple Concerto was on a Nonesuch LP conducted by Karl Ristenpart, a truly memorable and classic account from the 1960's. Rilling's is good but not as heartwarming. The sound engineering on this CD is very good. Altogether, this is a good representation of this repertoire."
