"Winner of the prestigious Tchaikowsky competition in 1974 and student of Rostropovich, Mr Pergamenschikow has recorded what is perhaps the most luminous account of the suites for solo cello. I have listened to at least nine different performances and have sold my other recordings after hearing this set. Purists might argue that he includes notes which Bach himself didn't write into the score, but this is entirely within the performance conventions of the baroque. I would recommend this set above Casals, Rostropovich, Bylsma, Starker, and Ma."
Subtle, gentle, precise

"I have 10 versions of this music and when I want a quitely refreshing one with no performer ego I chose either Fournier or this one, which is distinctively gentle and yet still very sophisticated.Whether you like it or not is a measure of yourself more than of Pergamenschikow, who is an absolute master of understated originality."
