CD Reviews

Too Vicious

"Maaaaaan this joint stays in my CD player. 1st of all its a double CD by Backyard which is enough. But the simple fact that they used live songs that are tight as hell topped the album off."

"I'm from DC... all I can say is maybe the lyrics to Unibomber are the realest ever recorded... "I don't wanna die...""

"Though Hood Related isn't their best album (see: Skillet), Hood Related is definitely a double disc of straight fire. First and foremost, Big Gingus should be given credit for preaching positivity and speaking against black on black violence. Go Go music could use a lot more of that. The positive message is only one of the reasons for this album being so hot though. The CDs are packed with all kind of BYB classics that any go-go head is easily familiar with. On Disc 1 you get BYB bangers like "Ill Na Na", "Cease Fire", and "91 Dope Jam" along with solid additions like "Junk In The Trunk" and "Big G & Jas Funk". Disc 2 offers up one of their most recognizable bangers in "Unibomber '97". That song alone gets this album 3 stars. Then they follow it up with bangers like "Back In the Day","John Salley", and "We Just Sippin'". I have to say that this double CD is a must have for any go go fan. If you turn this on at a party, it'll take you back to the Zulu Cave all over again. There really isn't anything wrong with Disc 2. Aside from the rather long-winded "Freestyle" (12:07), the rest flows perfectly. I highly reccomend it to anyone. Even the most casual of go go fans should have this already though.

Standout Tracks: Disc #1 - Ill Na Na, Cease Fire (My Favorite), 91 Dope Jam, Big G & Jas Funk, and Friday Nite Fish

Disc #2 - Back In The Day (My Favorite), Freestyle feat. Reek & P.O.P., Unibomber '97, and Tap Tap"
