Synopsis

Product Description
Namesakes do not apply; for Philadelphia's BALBOA is the spiritual and musical reincarnation of the self... their individual members, their rich city, their musical vacuum, their placement in a timescape splattered with the blandest of colors as dictated by contemporary culture. And thus, BALBOA's fight is neither that of the conquistador, nor that of the boxer, but that of the slivered hardcore underground creating waves of sound and fury to shake the traditions of the mainstream. From commencement in late 2000, BALBOA has, like any band, known numerous line-up changes and internal anomie, having emerged in this day in age as a solid, thriving musical unit defined by their sense of creative urgency and appreciation of the profound. The group champions no specific banner, yet does attempt to treat questions of political, philosophical, emotional, and spiritual natures to a musical accompaniment, fusing melancholy with sporadic and abrasive melody. BALBOA is a hardcore band. That is what they know. That is what they love. That is what they claim as their definition. Where notes shout self-expression and independence, this is where BALBOA can be found. Their first, self-titled album marked the launching point of the band's trek to infinity, proving that as a unit, BALBOA is capable of practicing expression without cliché. Their new EP, Manifeste Cannibale, is a progression towards a leaner, rawer sound. Recorded at Cannon Road with Josh Jakubowski (HOT CROSS, NEIL PERRY) in late 2004 and featuring artwork by Jackson Cavanaugh (FORDIRELIFESAKE, EXAMINATION OF THE), BALBOA has produced four new songs for the listener's protesting pleasure.
