A Special Barb Jungr

"The talents of singer stylist Barb Jungr are well established on her many fine CDs and that is why one wonder why this particular new CD is only sporadically available. For this listener this is one of her most sophisticated and genteel collections. Named THE MEN I LOVE, this is Jungr's selection of American songs by a varied group of composers and poets and she serves them very well.
The songs contained here should be mentioned:
Once in a Lifetime (David Byrne/Brian Eno)
I'm a Believer (Neil Diamond)
Breaking Down the Walls of Heartache (Sandy Linzer/Denny Randell)
Night Comes On (Leonard Cohen)
Can't Get Used to Losing You/Red Red Wine (Doc Promus/Neil Diamond)
The River (Bruce Springsteen)
I Saw The Light (Todd Rundgren)
This Old Heart of Mine/Love Hurts (Holland-Dozier-Holland/ B&F Bryant)
Everything I Own David Gates)
You Aint's Going Nowhere (Bob Dylan)
My Little Town (Paul Simon)
Wichita Lineman (Jimmy Webb)
That is a heady lineup of ballads and Jungr gives each its own personality as an homage to the men who wrote them. Her voice has rarely sounded fresher or more involved in the lyrics. She is supported by the excellent musicianship of Simon Wallace, Steve Watts, Frank Schaefer, Clive Bell and Paul Clarvis (Simon Wallace co-produced and arranged this collection with Jungr). Look for this CD to come round again - it is worth the wait. Grady Harp, February 10"
