"This album marries American folk singing with gospel harmonies, a white female citizen of the world with the unbelievably talented Chambers Brothers, courageous civil rights protesting with righteous sincerity. If you were there, this takes you back and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand in attention. If you weren't there, you can learn what it was like almost first-hand by experiencing this music.
After this everything changed. The Chambers Brothers went to Woodstock and got famous. I don't know where Barbara Dane went. But, she probably continued being a very talented and courageous human being. She is to be applauded for being this kind of woman.
This is a piece of American history that is not to be ignored."
