"This is Barbara's second solo recording, where she plays and improvises around her own excellent compositions, using the full range of the Hammond organ.
Like always her playing can be gutsy while technically immaculate, and the bonus is that she plays the bass line with her feet, with her specially adapted pedals, at the same time as using both keyboards. It's amazing to listen to, and in concert even more amazing to watch.
With some 18 or so of her own recordings released since she started in 1983, and about the same in guest appearances Barbara has certainly been the foremost jazz organist for over a decade, and every recording is a gem. She didn't win 3 Downbeat titles for nothing - and this CD contains some of her best work. The music moves from thoughtful to funky, and you forget that there are no other players - and no overdubs either. Anything by Barbara is outstanding, and this is up with her best.
Do not miss!
