CD Reviews

This is the most uplifting gospel album available!
03/17/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Ms. Mandrell puts her heart and soul into this album. She shares her Christian faith with the listeners and moves them to a higher level. I have many of Barbara's recordings, but this is my favorite by far!"
TREMENDOUSLY WONDERFUL!

"I love gospel music and was wanting music that was uplifting as well as annointed. This CD shows true feelings of hope, happiness and motivation far beyond any other recordings I've heard. I'm very very impressed and extremely happy with my purchase-Barbara maybe you should do another gospel recording, I know I would buy it. Thanks again."
Barbara's gospel album
Peter Durward Harris | Leicester England | 05/26/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Barbara Mandrell always took her Christian beliefs seriously so it was no surprise that she decided, at the peak of her popularity, to record a gospel album. It features several guests and much of it is fairly mellow, although there are some more upbeat songs to provide variation. The liner notes include Barbara's comments on each recording.

The set opens with What a friend we have in Jesus, performed as a duet with B J Thomas. This is followed by a medley of Swing low sweet chariot / Swing down chariot. More great songs follow including I turn to him (with the Blackwood brothers), I will gory in the cross (with Dottie Rambo), Through it all (with Andrae Crouch), the title track (solo), Out of the mouths of babes (with a children's choir) and I'm yours Lord (solo). The set ends with Then now and forever, a medley of gospel songs featuring various guests that runs for almost six minutes.

I've heard plenty of gospel albums and plenty of Barbara Mandrell albums. While I wouldn't describe this as being among my favorites in either category, it is nevertheless a superbly crafted album that I always enjoy hearing whenever I play it."
