"Barbarella is. . . Love!"

""Barbarella," the campy sci-fi flick starring Jane Fonda as a sexy space traveler, has always been a favorite film of mine, and one of its most endearing aspects is its delightfully wacky musical soundtrack. The original soundtrack recording contains the film's memorable instrumental score as well as the wonderful vocal performances that so effectively punctuate Barbarella's story. The lyrics and music are by Bob Crewe and Charles Fox, with the songs performed by Glitterhouse and Bob Crewe. The CD's liner notes also indicate that Michel Magne seems to have contributed to the music. This CD is freaky, silly, exciting, sexy, heroic, playful, absurd, sinister, unearthly--and a whole lot of fun. The instrumental cues evoke memorable images of the film. And the wonderful songs, so integral to the story, really stand up on their own. The title song with its deliciously wacky lyrics ("Barbarella, psychedella. . .") is full of fun energy. "Love, Love, Love Drags Me Down" is outrageously silly. "I Love All the Love in You" is a genuinely sweet and tender love song. And the final song, "An Angel Is Love," is a soaring and enchanting climax to the score. The vocal performances on each piece are perfectly in sync with the sexy, playful spirit of the film. The CD also features some great bonus material. There are 5 instrumental versions of selections from the score performed by the "Young Lovers." And there are also 3 radio spots used to promote the film. Incorporating snippets of memorable dialogue from the film, these radio ads are absolutely hilarious. In short, a classic motion picture score, full of color and fun, and nicely complemented by the bonus tracks."
Barbarella Psychedelia

"Far out, man! The soundtrack album to the 1968 sci-fi camp classic "Barbarella," starring the knockout gorgeous Jane Fonda in the title role, is a cocktail lounge fan's dream. The groovy, psychedelic late-60's horn arrangements, organ, strings, guitars & vocals are fantastic. Listening to the "Barbarella" soundtrack, you can easily picture the movie in your mind, but even if you haven't seen the movie (and you really should, y'know), this music, composed by Bob Crew and Charles Fox, is way cool. So many great tracks, but a few favorites of mine include the title song, the drunken sing-along "Love Love Love Drags Me Down," scorching instrumentals like "Spaceship Out Of Control," "The Black Queen's Beads," "The Sex Machine" and "The Chamber Of Dreams," and the soaring, exuberant final song, "An Angel Is Love." The CD also comes with some great bonus tracks, including alternate versions of a few of the tunes as played by "The Young Lovers," as well as some radio promotion spots for the film. The "Barbarella" movie soundtrack is a solid, super psychedelic feast. Get it before it disappears, baby!"
Love, Love, Lo-ove..Drags Me Down....

"...Yeeah, Baybay!Great stuff from the 60's cult sci-fi cinema. The Glitterhouse seems like they had a little more fun with falsettos than that 'other' group of four guys Bob Crewe played protege to, 'cause you can hear a smiling/near laughing coming thru on the vocals on 'Love, Drags Me Down'; if you listen closely, you can hear the influence of Charlie Fox's bumpy bass lines and 'chick-chik-chikka-chikka-chick...waaaah' electric guitars ala some of the television shows he's done, most notably 'The Love Boat'....Anyhoo, dig Crewe's playboy-driving-a-Karman-Ghia vocalizing on 'An Angel is Love' and the hiss and bite of the snippets of movie music intertwined with the 'Barbarella's psychedelia' main theme. Or, in other words folks, this soundtrack is most cool. They could remake the movie with, like, Reese Witherspoon as Barberella and use the self same soundtrack, it is that good. Crewe and crew(s) were like Burt Bacharach without the whoa-whoa-wohs and piana thrillings. We dudes downtown didn't mind listening to his sound 'cause it had a little rawness and realness branded in it...."

"This soundtrack is so brash, colourful and inventive- it's amazing and on this eagerly awaited cd it comes in a very attractive package- it has a poster, trivia about the film and crew and composers and the music performers, and it also has special bonus tracks reprising the soundtacks most salacious tunes in a very cruisy jazz manifestation which top it off perfectly. And then there's the radio spots, 3 in all, advertising the film in its day. An excellent accompaniment to the dvd or video and a great surprise for many who have this s/t on vinyl and find this one of the lushest, wildest most innovative and dreamy soundtracks ever. Thank goodness someone had the brains to put this on cd!"
STILL GROOVY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

"The "Barbarella" soundtrack on CD is a dream come true. I own the vinyl album and have loved the music for years. The soundtrack flows with the essence of the late 1960's music as in the movie. All the music from the album is on the CD, although, albeit a glich or what, the song tracking does not coinside with the song titles. The tracking is one number off. Number 4 "Sky Ride" shows as number 5 on my CD player but the tracking is corrected when track numbers 16 and 17 are combined (Dead Duck and The Pill). All the great vocals for "Barbarella", "Love, Love, Love Drags Me Down" and "An Angel is Love" are on the CD. If you enjoyed the music from the movie, this CD is a must! This is my ultimate soundtrack next to the In Like Flint/Our Man Flint by Jerry Goldsmith."
