Album DescriptionBonny at Morn showcases the elegant side of traditional Celtic music. Over the rich colors of her Irish harp Barbary Grant weaves a tapestry of uilleann pipes, flute, fiddle, concertina, cello, and bodhran (Irish drum). Above this sparkling backdrop soar the old melodies, rendered in Grant?s sublime soprano. All three of the Gaelic languages are represented here. The four songs in Irish range from the jaunty Moll Dubh a? Ghleanna (Dark Molly of the Glen, the cheerful praises of a rejected suitor) to the achingly lovely Tá Mé ?Mo Shuí (I Am Awake). The Manx Gheay Jeh?n Aer (Sea Invocation) is a haunting song the girls of Peel sang from the shore as their husbands set off in their fishing boats, while the Scots Am Buachaille Bàn (Fair Shepherd) is simply one of the loveliest melodies the Celts have to offer. Bonny at Morn offers the perfect escape from ordinary life into the romance of ancient Celtic landscapes.
