CD Reviews

Carole Bogard's CD is incredible with her lovely singing!!

"Carole Bogard is one of my favorite singers of the 60s and 70s! Her singing voice is very lovely and can sing like an angel!! Her rendition of Bach's Cantata no. 51 is the best!!

It's really hard to find her other recordings in stores or on the Internet, but this recording is my favorite!! If your're a fan of the Baroque music period, get this CD because it's unbelievably fantastic!!"
Fabulous performances by a neglected master of singing

"In the 1960s and '70s, soprano Carole Bogard was widely recognized as one of the greatest of all sopranos then singing "early music," i.e., Monteverdi, Bach and Handel. But her sphere of influence was limited: performing mostly in and around Boston and the West Coast, her New York appearances were rare, and her recordings for the hard-to-find Cambridge label even rarer.

This CD combines two of those albums, and in it we hear Bogard singing a sparkling "Jauchzet Gott in Allen Landen" as well as other cantatas of Bach, Handel and Scarlatti, accompanied by conductor John Moriarty who leads his forces with a rare combination of authenticity and zest.

As for Bogard, her voice was pure, rich and velvety, with no holes in either her technique or passagio; her lower and middle ranges of the voice were just as beautiful as the high notes. Her technique was also superb, allowing her to sing this music with a perfect combination of flawless coloratura and depth of feeling. If you have never heard her, this is a great place to start; if you know her voice, this disc is a must-have."
