Excellent good-time traditional country music

"It seemed that Becky Hobbs had everything required to make the big time. She wrote her own songs (some of which became hits for others), she had a wonderful voice, an outgoing personality, she looked great and her high-energy live performances were hugely entertaining - her piano-playing was reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis, Sadly, her traditional country music never quite seemed to fit what the record companies were looking for.A new Becky Hobbs album is a rare event. This album was released in 1998 and I cannot find any evidence of anything more recent. Becky's previous album (Boots I came to town in, which I've already reviewed) was released in 1994. That album featured plenty of ballads and a few up-tempo songs. As such, it was more restrained than this one, which has more up-tempo songs and fewer ballads. Becky is a high-energy lady with an outgoing personality, which shows in the up-tempo songs.Becky has also achieved success as a songwriter, having her songs covered by Alabama and others. However, as far as I can tell, none of the songs here have gone on to be hits for others (unlike her previous album, which includes Angels among us). Nevertheless, this is an exciting album that is far more entertaining than many big-name stars could ever hope to record.Becky is one of the best traditional country singers there has ever been. It is a pity that she never got the opportunity to prove it. If this is your kind of music, buy whatever you can find, whether it's this album, her previous album or something older (the only one I've heard is All keyed up - another classic)."

"This is a great cd by a gifted singer/songwriter. The fact that Becky wrote these herself is notable in these days of the Nashville hit factories. A couple a weak tracks kept me from giving it five stars. This one is a keeper--buy it!"
