He was the first conductor to be awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, received 14 Grammy awards, the American National Medal of Arts, four ASCAP awards for service to contemporary music, and several others. This recording of Beethovens famous 9th symphony features soloists Benita Valente, Janice Taylor, Richard Leech, and William Stone.
