A Lilting Score for a Lovely Film

"Having enjoyed the film CLARA ET MOI on a number of levels lead to obtaining the film score, a score that is even better when heard by itself than it was for the film. The music number that are sprinkled through the story seem so right, though a bit conspicuous, but then the film has a bit of the feeling of French musicals such as 'Umbrellas of Cherbourg'.
The musical score was composed by Benjamin Biolay, this being his first such outing, and he manages to capture the innocence of first love and also the changes that accompany the journey of the love affair of the title. There is a particular sequence by the Seine which sets a musical romance ('Ma Rencontre') which was composed by Bertrand Burgalat and performed by the stars Julie Gayet et Juien Boisselier. It is a pleasure even without the visuals.
The entire score has moments of fine composition, but the one thing that is missing is the recurring use of Franz Schubert's 'Fantasia for Piano 4 hands in F minor, D 940 which is not included on this CD. So if the viewer is looking to buy the score just for the purpose of having that lovely work in collection, then best turn to the many recordings available in the classical music selection. Pleasant background music, this. Grady Harp, June 06
