Una versión inquietantemente fantástica

"Esta versión de Wozzeck grabada en directo aunque en concierto (sin escenificar) es, sin duda alguna, la única competencia real de la versión de Mitropoulos y con mucho mejor sonido. Los cantantes están estupendos, con mención especial para Theo Adam en el papel principal, pero con una labor de equipo magistral, la mejor que se da en discos para esta obra. La orquesta es también muy buena y la dirección de Kegel es de una intensidad escalofriante, sin alardes narcisistas, pero por eso mismo de una sinceridad apabullante. El único punto negro de esta grabación es la ausencia de textos. Pero eso es menos importante. Búsquense los textos en algún lugar y cómprenla rápidamente. No se arrepentirán."

"I've heard nearly all the commercially recorded Wozzecks and just found this one recently. It has an unusual perspective, almost like a seat in the first row, very much "in your face" or ear, as the case may be. And it is much like atending an intense, hair-raising live performance. Theo Adam offers a most musical and humane Wozzeck and Kegel really keeps it moving in a way that brings back the rawness of the piece, not the homogenized romantic sound one hears in many Berg performances nowadays. I think all of the available recordings are mixed bags but for now this is the one i want to hear. Great stuff."
