"I only recently became a fan of Powderfinger and was apprehensive when I learned that Fanning had gone off on his own. I'm usually disappointed by the solo careers of frontmen of my favorite bands - Rob Thomas needs to resurrect Matchbox 20, Sarah Bettens needs to return to K's Choice...the list goes on.



But that being said, this album is actually on par with the Powderfinger albums. It's certainly mellower in tone, but has a similar vibe to it. Fans of Elliot Smith, Alexei Murdoch, Matt Wertz, and comparable artists will love this album. Some highlights include "Thrill is Gone" (reminds me of Powderfinger's "Love Your Way), "Believe," and "Watch over Me."



The range and quality of the music is topnotch. I definitely recommend this album."

"as a big "Fingers" fan, I was recommended this by an even bigger fan. I listened to it and thought WTF? I was waiting for the next track to be a "rocker" and then it finished. But the CD remained in the car, got a couple of listens, and low and behold, a classic was born. This album feels like a "written in one session" type of album, songs of love and loss that can almost be assembled into a chronology of a relationship. I can see the comparisson with Elliot Smith, but Smiths work has an LA backstreet, tattoo, trash blowing up the alley vibe to it, Fanning is more deep south, Brendan Benson without the bubble gum humour perhaps. This is a serious album, but wonderfully crafted, dont let the lack of big rocking tracks put you off, this starts of as nice and becomes magnificent."

"I was first taken by Bernard Fanning when I heard him harmonize a duet with Kasey Chambers ("It's a Hard Road") and I told my wife, "this guy has a great voice and can really sing!" So we looked him up and read the stellar reviews. I bought the CD and haven't stopped playing it daily for the past month.



I'm not familiar with his other works with his famous band in Australia but this solo CD is amazing. His voice is sweet and emotional. The lyrics have a certain sadness to them which makes me wonder if he was recovering from some heartbreak when he wrote these pieces. In any case, I love the CD. If you like folk rock sung and played by a natural, then this is a CD that won't disappoint."
