Music Great, Herrmann Dry

"Bernard Herrmann, arguably one of the best film composers ever, created sounds for Hitchcock's films which are as important and indellible as the images captured by the camera. This recording shows you why. The two best things about this CD are "The Storm Cloud Cantata" (from both versions of "The Man Who Knew Too Much"), and the prelude to "The Wrong Man," two pieces rarely heard. The commentary by Herrmann, while a tiny bit dry at times, is both enlightening and useful. A very good investment, for devoted fans of Herrmann, Hitchcock, and movie music."
A Tad Short

"The only reason I didn't assign five stars to this CD is its length; I don't think it cracks 30 minutes. However, it packs a lot of quality into that short timespan. Elmer Bernstein does a stellar job of conducting his colleague's material (performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra), and I found Bernard Herrmann's commentary entertaining and instructive. If you have the opportunity to acquire this CD for cheap, jump on it--you might not be able to acquire the prelude from The Wrong Man and The Storm Clouds cantata anywhere else."
