It was about time: the long awaited second solo album by Bernhard Drax is out. The album will feature 9 songs and according to some US college stations it is ripe with the usual influences ranging from Leonard Cohen to King Crimson ( with some serious Chili Peppers and Zappa in between). The CD was produced by Mr. Drax with the help of electronic guitarist Roland Reinke and recorded at The Shed on the beautiful Central Coast of California with a Macintosh G5. All instruments, including grand piano and bass were played by those two mavericks with Mike Shannon abusing his dw jazz kit as he has never done before. The outcome is raw, immediate and full of addictive melodic ideas as well as unique sounds everywhere you look. The lyrical themes run from boy meets girl - gets dumped -can?t stop bitching about it ? finally makes same mistake again (?Truce?), to the adventures of a simple house cat in outer space (?Space Kitten?). One instrumental composition is a grim statemeny on the daily reality of living under the reign of George W. (?The Bullies Prevailed! ?).
