"I wish more people had heard of Berwald because he wrote not only composed four good symphonies but also a lot of chamber music some of which is the best I have heard. Berwald's piano trios are only surpassed by Beethoven's. Naxos has recorded the entire trios by the same team.
The first trio is only of the most perfectly composed from the sonata in the opening movement to the march like theme that concludes the piece. I was brougt to tears several times by the beauty of the music. During the final movement it seemed a symphony has erupted but it was only three instruments.
The discs containt two fragments which might seem to be disc padding both are as beautiful as the full trios.
The final trio is a hauntingly beautiful one movement work that is Berwald's best coordinatio of all three parts.
please try all of the naxos Berwald chamber works you won't be disappointed. please Excuse typos I have a neurologic disease.
