"One hit wonder Beverly Bremers' "Don't Say You Don't Remember" was one of my favorite records as a teenager - the perfect rendering of young love's fear of being forgotten. When I saw this CD I just assumed someone had repackaged more of her music from back in the day. Imagine my surprise to find out it was Beverly Bremers alive and well and recording again after about 40 years.
The voice is no longer that of a lovestruck kid, but a fully mature woman, which gives "Don't Say You Don't Remember" less urgency but more poignancy. The rest of the CD, all songs written by Ms. Bremers, is a mixed bag of styles all of which are more than adequately handled. My favorites include the opener "Dream City," "Dancin' With The Devil," "Jezebel," Haven't I Seen You Somewhere Before" and "Oldie But A Goodie."
Ms. Bremers doesn't have to worry about losing her one-hit wonder status. If I had to compare her to someone still around from that time frame it would be Lulu who has been consistently recording, performing and appearing on TV all the while Ms. Bremers was living a real life that informs her singing. Like Lulu, she can handle the uptempo stuff and bring it back to a slow burn when necessary.
This is not a great CD, but it is a tuneful, enjoyable package that easily surpasses most of the pap heard on the radio these days. Even if you say you don't remember her, this collection is worth your while. And then you will say you Do remember."
A very pleasent suprise

"The title track on this CD has been one of my favorite songs for several decades now. On this new release Ms.Bremers does a wonderful job of updating this classic song as well as sharing a CD full of her own originals. She is a fine singer and this Cd covers many genres of music well. If you are a fan of Beverly Bremers or even just a fan of good music, I would recommend you pick this one up."
