Album DescriptionThis CD is a labor of love dedicated to my spiritual masters, Srila Prabhupäda and Srila Näräyana Mahäraja. By their blessings, may it help the listeners remember Krsna and draw closer to Him. I am not a great musician, but I have a desire to glorify the Lord by whatever skills and talents He has graciously bestowed on me. This CD is the expression of a sober, mature devotional mood in the early stages of renunciation. It has a serious, almost brooding atmosphere of regret for the mistakes and errors of life, and a deep nostalgia for the pastimes of Sri Hari in the spiritual world. Most of the melodies on this CD were composed by Visnujäna Svämi, one of the first sannyasi disciples of A.C. Bhaktivedänta Svämi Prabhupäda and a great musician. Visnujäna composed these melodies at the request of his beloved Gurudeva, and we think they reveal his greatness. Thank you for listening. Sing along if you like! "Gazing at Krsna's picture, Radharani said: 'O splendid transcendental youth, in this charming picture I see Your form shine like the flames of a submarine volcano, or like black moonlight. Please cool My eyes. We are simple and honest. Ah! Ah! Why is it that we do not know who You are?' " [Rupa Gosvämi, Ujjväla-nilamani] Bhaktisiddhärtha Däsänudäs is a devotional artist whose vision of the spiritual world has blossomed under the guidance and inspiration of his gurus. His orchestrations, while dark, sinuous and masculine in the tradition of Sibelius and Shostakovitch, also shine with a kind of transcendental romantic 'black moonlight,' revealing the confidential pastimes of Goloka Vrndävan, the highest planet in the spiritual sky. He transforms these simple Bengali bhäjans into a passionate plea for mercy from his divine Lord. The arrangements, spare and austere yet ornamented with intense spiritual feelings, convey a profound confidence born of a lifetime of sädhana. Gopinäth This is a song by Bhaktivinoda Thäkura. It is the lament of a devotee who feels he has wasted his life in material activities and is begging for the mercy of his beloved Lord. Gäya Gorä Madhur Svare This is an ecstatic bhäjan by Bhaktivinoda Thäkura in the mood of preaching the glories of the Holy Name of the Lord. Manasa Deho Geho This song is also by Bhaktivinoda Thäkura. A pure devotee wants to surrender everything?mind, body and home?to his divine Master Sri Krsna. Nrsimha Pranäm This is a traditional song of obeisance and glorification to Lord Nrsimhadeva, the half-man, half-lion incarnation of Krsna who protects His devotees. The words are in Sanskrit with free-verse renderings in English.
