Recorded live at Rockford College in 1965 and released 33 years later, These Are My Blues is the legendary Big Joe Williams--whose career spanned nearly 60 years--in fine form, playing Delta blues on an electrically amplified nine-string guitar. He uses the tremolo extensively throughout; the result is a shivering sound that feels just right on blues classics like "Baby, Please Don't Go" and "Lowdown Dirty Shame." There's also a cover of "You Are My Sunshine," which one would not expect to come off well, but which turns out to be oddly appealing. The between-song patter is almost as interesting as the songs themselves; among other things, we learn that this performance of "A Man Amongst Men" is dedicated to President Kennedy. CD ReviewsExcellent Heath Edan Combs | north carolina | 08/28/2004 (5 out of 5 stars) "I collect these Big Joe albums and I've got about eight, so first I want to say it's best to collect a lot of his stuff to get an idea of why he's such a great blues artist. This album was stuck in my cd player for months. The guitar phrasing in "Mellow Peaches" still blows me away every time I hear it. What makes this album great is the tremelo, and it's just incredible. This album really showcases what big joe does best and that's making complicated delta blues sound simpe. "Boogie Chillen" is good, but joe did it too short on this album, I think it's a little over a minute, "Man Amongst Men" is good but I didn't think so until I heard it about 50 times, "Good Morning Little School Girl" is good and when I hear it I remember that big joe played on a lot of recordings by it's writer Sonny Boy Williamson (the first, the original). "Baby Please Don't Go" done here sounds different (in an amazing way) and just as great if not better than the countless versions of the song he wrote.A definite buy---"
