"This is the same concert as the "Columbia: Live at Missouri University", with one exception: it's only 10 of the 14 songs. Get the Columbia CD -- it's five stars.
What a rip off this is."

"It's called "Extended Versions" for some reason. Minimal packaging merely states "Recorded Live." There's no indication of where or when this concert took place, which is a pity. There isn't even a listing of personnel. But it's obviously from their career and/or performing height. A tight set of ten of their best songs. They sound fluid and organic and--best of all--confident, in front of what sounds like a small audience. Every track cooks, and surpasses its studio version. If you've never heard Big Star, this would be a perfect entry point. This early 70's band was out on a limb, looking for some Liverpool/Memphis/ Power Pop amalgamation, joined with the nakedness, the emotional directness, of their lyrics. Their instability, I hear, is legendary, so it's great to hear a live CD of them captured at their best--because there probably won't be any others."
