"The Bill Doggett Combo was one of the major musical influences in the development of Rock N Roll in the 50's. Bill Butler's guitar and Bubba Brooks' tenor sax were the model for hundreds of 50s musicians; especially, those loving both jazz and the blues. In this album are most of those numbers calling those of the 50s era back to the dance floor: Ding Dong, Hammer Head, Ram-Bunk-Shus, and Shindig. This album is an excellent suppliment to the "All His Hits" collection, which includes: Honky Tonk, parts 1 and 2, Slow Walk, Blip Blop, Hold It, and Smokie. It's blues, jazz, and rock n roll all rolled into the best music of our time; that is, if your time was the 50s."

"This is a top notch King reissue. Bill Doggett is not Jimmy Smith - just like Earl Bostic is not Bird or Coltrane BUT he has a great groove and the melodies are timeless. BTW the tenor is Clifford Scott. I listen to this quite a bit. If you are a Booker T fan you'll enjoy this also."
