As a soloist and a member of THE COUNTRY GENTLEMAN, banjoist BILL EMERSON has left his mark on the contemporary bluegrass scene, pushing country music's most conservative genre in fresh directions.
Beginning in 1957, BILL EMERSON established himself as a banjo virtuoso and history maker alike! He was a founding member of the famed bluegrass ensemble THE COUNTRY GENTLEMAN; billed as a featured artist while with JIMMY MARTIN during the height of that bluegrass legend's career; the man who introduced the classic "Fox on the Run" to bluegrass; and was the founder and shaper of COUNTRY CURRENT, the world renowned bluegrass ensemble of the United States Navy Band.
Bill s third album since forming the Sweet Dixie Band in 2007 includes Teri Chism (vocals and upright bass) and Wayne Lanham (vocals and mandolin) carrying over from the 2nd Sweet Dixie release (SOUTHERN) and they worked with one of Bill s previous partners, Cliff Waldron. Add Chris Stifel and his history with the band Country Store on vocals and guitar and you have a great bluegrass band.
BILL EMERSON & SWEET DIXIE plays easy to listen to traditional to modern country style songs with a highly identifiable style. The band includes no less than three great lead singers, each with their own distinct style. Listen to their vocal harmonies and you ll find no others with that sound.
The album includes four new and dynamic instrumentals including Wayne Lanham s Scottish flavored Castle Hayne and three BILL EMERSON originals. Perhaps Home Sweet Dixie Home is the instrumental highlight of this album. BILL EMERSON and guest Bill Evans perform Emerson s classic Sweet Dixie as a duet in combination with the traditional Home Sweet Home.
