"Forget about ratings, forget about hype, this music is the pinnacle and will take you to another planet...we all know about Bill Evans but here is the confirmation that Scott Lafaro's bass solos should be listened to by all mankind for the next hundred years. Listen to, dissected and learned, whatever,... there will never be another trio like this one."

"...sippin' a beer and relaxing with this music.
Bill Evans live is always the best way to listen to his music. This is certainly the most relaxing and fun.
Its quiet music. I like to use headphones for this one.
I also have 'live at Montreax' and 'the Tokyo concert'."
Heavenly!

"How else could you describe this collection but "Heavenly"! The music sounds so effortless and airy, yet there's no way anyone but accomplished musicians could play like this. I normally go for the rougher-edged side of jazz, like Monk, Mingus, or Coltrane... trios are often too "smooth" sounding for me. These recordings, however, are so beautiful and nuanced (and well-recorded) that I can't stop listening to them! Evans has a great, angular style which keeps this from ever sounding "easy listening"."

"This by far out of the box sets I own (most of the 8 box sets by miles, heavyweight, keith jarrett blue note, etc) is my favorite. The music on this collection is priceless. If you're just getting into box sets or bill evans, this is a nice place to start considering what's on it and how it's only priced at $30. Even if you're just starting out on jazz, this is an amazing place to start, this box set is one of the first jazz recordings I ever heard, even in before Kind of Blue. Evans was truly a genius, some of the piano licks on here are incredible and I can't even describe to you what he is doing. I think that's what great music is, the inability to understand what the musician is doing, yet it somehow strikes your core. As a drummer, it's definitely a must own considering Paul Motian's waltz beats aren't ordinary and have you thinking out of the box. LaFaro on upright also teaches bass players that you don't always have to be stuck in a walking line all the time while playing jazz. Bottom line, if you listen to jazz, you should be purchasing this box set right now."
