CD Reviews

Unknown Jazz Vocalist Amazing!
dennis allee | provincetown, ma United States | 04/23/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"It is amazing that Bill Henderson never received the acclaim of the jazz world beyond insiders like Frank Sinatra and Charlie Haden who knew how good he is. Henderson is a wonderful interpreter of ballads and this recording with Oscar Peterson is filled with gems. Don't miss it if you love jazz vocals!"
Unsung Vocalist

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wow...I am thrilled to find this album. Mine was stolen with all my other cassettes about nine years ago. Bill Henderson has one of the smoothest styles I have ever come across. To pair up with the imcomparable Oscar Peterson lends the album a hipness that finds its way down to the cellular level. Simplicity, soul, fun, and enjoyment are in his voice in every song. You can almost hear his smile. I know them all by heart!"
Smiling Fish & Goat On Fire...

"I discovered this guy from watching a movie...Smiling Fish & Goat On Fire. I looked him up on IMDB and he's had an interesting career...character actor in 43 films and 33 TV shows plus over a dozen jazz albums. So I thought I would check one out and he's quite good. He is a jazz/balladeer in the vein of Joe Williams or Tony Bennett. This album was originally released in 1963 and the CD reissue has 4 bonus tracks. Nice vocals & great band. Oscar Peterson and Ray Brown are two of my fave musicians. Henderson still plays around a lot in the LA area."
