CD ReviewsYou gotta have a ducktail....wah ooooh! Matthew F. Strickland | Redford, MI USA | 07/22/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "This CD, compiled with the help of Billy Adams himself, is a fairly definitive look at his music both old and new. Put out by the Castle label, "Rockin Thru the Years" has a slick package and a fantastic 16 page booklet that gives a good history of Billy Adams and his musical career. Having missed him at Green Bay, I was glad to get a fuller perspective of the man's music. Contained on this gem are the classic boppers "Rock Pretty Mama" and "You Gotta Have a Ducktail" along with 25 others. All but two songs were penned by Billy himself, a testament to his musical talent. I got a laugh or two out of the "Return of the All American Boy", an obvious tribute to the King himself. The remainder of the cd contains pretty standard rockabilly, 50's rock n roll and pop faire. The last few songs on the album are modern and live recordings and give a good comparison to what his original "authentic" recordings sound like. There are also a few previously unreleased demo cuts for all the collectors out there, "Keep the Flag Waving" and the Everly Brothers hit "Bird Dog". For obvious reasons, my favorites on the CD are "Gotta Have a Ducktail" and "Rock Pretty Mama", plus an alt. take of "Rock Pretty Mama", making this a worthwhile purchase by themselves." HOT LICKS, HOT VOCALS, AWESOME Matthew F. Strickland | 09/19/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "A must for 50's or Rockabilly fans. This is the best CD I have heard in a long time! If you like music, you gotta have this one!
This is sure to be a favorite of any music lover! WOW! This dude Rules! He Rocks! Sure to be a collector's item! Glad I got one of the first!" |
