Disappointing, Classic is not Classic

"If you saw an album titled "Classic" with a name like George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Monty Python, you would naturally think Classic = some of the very best bits.
In this case classic means real old, not necessarily good. Recorded live somewhere at some time (there is no information on the sleeve), it seems to be very early Connolly, as he is making the transition from folk singer to stand-up comedy. A good amount of the material not only depends on being able to understand a Glaswegian patter, but also requires some geographical knowledge of Glasgow itself. A lot of scatalogical humour, and too many folk singing comedy songs.
It is as if this recording company found an old tape of Connolly's that they had rights to, so they decided to cash in.
There is a reason the price on this is so low."

"This CD is absolutely invaluable for when I need to clear my house of guests when it get's a bit late and I want to go to my bed. This is the best six bucks value I have had in ages. The sheer greatness of this quite wonderful collection is just unbelievable value for six dollars, amazing! I just can hardly wait for something of this magnificence to come my way again. Who said Scots people weren't very funny? This CD goes that extra mile to dispel such myths. Buy it now, you won't regret it. Next time your Auntie Mary is round boring the pants off you, just reach for this trusty CD, put it on and watch her beg for mercy. Keep it up. More of the same please. Hurrah for the makers and distributors of this quite remarkable recording. Hurrah."
Billy Connolly - Classic Connolly (CD)

"I've only ever heard or seen Billy on TV or DVD's. What I can understand of this disc is funny, but you've got to LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY. It's a live performance and many times the laughter of the crowd drowns out his monologue. And you have to listen very carefully as his Scottish brogue is very strong in this version."
